Applications for Study Tour Experience Close February 13
Applications are still open for the Study Tour Experience, an international programme for international students who are considering applying for HSE master’s programmes this year. Participants (who will be selected as part of a competition) will be able to attend lectures and seminars at HSE University from February 21 to March 5. Participation is free of charge.
The Study Tour Experience is a kind of a ‘test drive’ for prospective international students. Participants spend two weeks learning about master’s programmes by experiencing them first-hand, including course content, teachers’ expectations, students’ levels and more. These experiences are very helpful in deciding whether to apply to HSE University, choosing a programme, and preparing for admission.
The Study Tour will be available to international participants in Russian and English. The format (online or on-site) will depend on the pandemic situation. Four fields of study will be available in both Russian and in English (Business and Management, Finance and Economics, Psychology and Cognitive Sciences, Social and Political Sciences), and two more in Russian only (Informatics and Mathematics, Law).
Senior bachelor’s students and university graduates from any country are welcome to participate in the Study Tour Experience. They will get an opportunity to immerse themselves in student life at HSE University, gain invaluable experience and new knowledge, discover new perspectives and meet other participants.
Applications will be accepted until February 13. The results of the motivation letter competition will be announced no later than February 16. The programme will take place from February 21 to March 5. Participation is free of charge.
Register to apply: in Russian, in English.
Some participants of the winter Study Tour Experience shared their impressions of the programme:
Tamar Grigoryan, Stepanakert, Armenia
I studied at Artsakh State University and this year, I’m going to apply to HSE University. Like any interested applicant, I spent hours looking at master’s programmes, competition procedures and opportunities for foreigners.
I was happy to find out about the Study Tour—a programme that offered a free opportunity to spend a week studying at HSE University in a field of your choice. For me, it was a step towards my years-long dream and an opportunity to step into the shoes of an HSE student. Of course, I didn’t pass up on this chance.
The programme consisted of lectures and practical classes from all the master’s programmes taught at the Graduate School of Business. This helped me choose a more specific programme, knowing which one matched my professional interests, experience and skills. During the Study Tour, teachers did not draw a line between us and actual HSE students, which helped us faster integrate into the learning process.
Most of the lectures were interactive: we could ask questions and take part in discussions. I was particularly impressed by Pavel Merinov’s leadership classes. There were other seminars, where we listened to presentations of team projects and learnt a lot of new and interesting things. During the internship, the head of the project was in constant contact with us, and I got answers to any organisational questions I had.
Participation in the Study Tour motivated me to work harder on my application. It was a great experience, and I would recommend anyone considering applying to HSE to apply for the spring Study Tour, which I am also definitely going to do as well. In addition to the Study Tour, it’s worth participating in other events, such as winter schools, open days and online meetings with Q&A sessions for international participants. These events will help you make your choice and immerse yourself in the admission process and the HSE atmosphere.

I learnt about the Study Tour from a friend who studied at HSE. I wanted to take a look at a different area and different system of studies to understand if I would like to do a master’s degree at HSE University
The programme was well-organised. The manager, Luiza Rakhimova, helped us and answered all our questions. The application process was really simple and the reply from the organisers came really fast. Filling in the application form took me about one hour. I actually sent my application form one day before the deadline!
Since I’m currently studying at RUDN in Moscow and already know some Russian, I took some classes in Russian. My impression was very good. The teachers are really open and are ready to answer students’ questions or have a discussion.
After the Study Tour, I was really happy with the programme and the professionalism and engagement of the teachers and organisors with the students. I’m still in the process of deciding if I will join HSE University this year or next year.
Azizbek Zakhidov, Tashkent, Uzbekistan
I am a consultant at the Tashkent office of Deloitte. Despite my workload, I always try to gain useful knowledge and improve my skills. One day in October, my friend suggested that I take part in the Study Tour. It seemed interesting, since in the future, I would like to pursue a master’s degree.
The Study Tour is a great opportunity to experience life as a master’s student at HSE University. Those who passed the selection process were given full access to HSE’s internal system. To successfully complete the programme, we had to attend all the obligatory seminars. They were in different fields, including public talks, data analysis, personal development, finance, etc. We also managed to attend some workshops and a finance game.
In the seminars, we were able to have discussions on equal terms with full-time HSE students and ask teachers any questions we wanted. The HSE students were also happy to see us and answer our questions.
The Study Tour left me with a positive impression of HSE University. I could get a clearer understanding of the university and expand my contact network. After the programme, I got a certificate of completion, which is also a nice bonus for me. I recommend this programme to anyone interested in trying master’s studies at HSE University.
Admissions to HSE’s Bachelor's and Master’s programmes are now open. International students can apply online. Submit your application early to qualify for a full-tuition scholarship.
