Summer University to Be Held Online Second Year in a Row
International students from all over the world can enroll in HSE University’s summer programme, choosing from a wide range of courses that will be delivered via Zoom from June 20 till August 20, 2021. This year, Summer University is offering new courses, tuition fee discounts, and networking opportunities. Application deadline is May 20, 2021.
Oksana Chernenko, head of the HSE Summer University
In 2020, international students who had planned to come to Moscow for our Summer University, were still able to take part in the programme despite all the pandemic-related restrictions. Eight courses were held online, with US-Russia Relations, Politics and Economics of Energy, and Russia’s Soft Power being the top three most popular choices. Additionally, HSE Summer University organized its traditional Russian language course at different levels. The course lasted 4 weeks with 5 classes a week, which gave students a perfect opportunity to make significant progress in Russian language.
New Courses
This year, there will be several new courses in Law and Business, including Conflicts of Fundamental Rights before Constitutional Courts: A Comparative Perspective. This course is perfectly suited for students interested in comparative constitutional and human rights litigation research. Another new course, International Business and Management from Asia to Russia, is for those who wish to explore the ins and outs of doing business in Asia from the perspective of non-Asian companies.
The full list of all courses offered this year is available here. All courses were designed with remote learning in mind. As was the case last year, the schedule will be finalised after the registration period closes—to accommodate students from different time zones.
Tuition Fee Discounts
HSE University students are now eligible for special tuition fee discounts from 50% to 70% if they wish to take any of Summer University courses. In order to qualify for a discount, students should demonstrate high academic achievement (GPA above 7.5) and submit a strong motivation letter.
Other scholarship opportunities will be provided by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Through its GoEast initiative, the DAAD is encouraging more and more students to complete their academic studies in Central-Eastern, South- Eastern, and Eastern Europe, as well as in CIS. For HSE Summer University 2021, ten scholarships have been allocated for students from Germany or those who currently study in Germany. Applications are accepted via DAAD.
Socializing Opportunities
In addition to an extensive academic programme, Summer University students will be able to join informal social gatherings on Zoom. As in previous years, students of the HSE School of Foreign Languages plan to conduct a series of online orientation sessions, along with Russian culture and history quiz games. The activities will be open to all Summer University students.
