HSE Showcases Innovations in Urbanism and Neural Networks at Russia’s Geek Picnic 2020
This year, Russia’s largest science and technology festival, Geek Picnic, was held online for the first time. Despite the new format, the festival programme included all of the event’s usual key features: expert lectures, workshops, competitions, and opportunities to socialize and network with fellow tech and science enthusiasts. HSE University once again served as the festival’s content partner.
Innovative Approach: Master’s Programme Prepares Managers for a Changing World
The digital era, which has come to stay, is creating demand for ever more competent managers for innovation and R&D. The English-taught master’s programme in Governance of Science, Technology and Innovation offered by HSE University enables its graduates to pursue careers in top IT corporations such as Google and Yandex, research institutions and universities, government agencies and international organizations. MIEM TechnoShow: ‘The University’s Key Objective is to Inspire Students to Create Something New’
With five hours of networking, 22 ‘video guest halls’, and over 800 visitors from 16 countries, this year’s MIEM TechnoShow was a spectacular online exhibition. Attendees could visit various ‘rooms’ to see the projects MIEM students had been working on this past academic year.
MIEM HSE’s Annual Technoshow Will Be Held Online
On May 31, MIEM students will present their projects at the Institute’s annual exhibition, which this year will be held online. Of 200 team projects created at the Institute this past academic year, the expo will feature the 25 most brilliant and successful, both in terms of innovation and practicality.
MIEM Students Win Rostelecom Online Hackathon
In VirusHack, a hackathon organized by Rostelecom, a team of students from the HSE Tikhonov Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics (MIEM HSE) finished among the competition’s winning teams. More than 1,000 competitors from different regions of Russia presented 240 projects before the jury of the hackathon, which was held remotely.
HSE International Student Admissions to Continue as Usual for the 2020/2021 Academic Year
In the event of unfavorable conditions or border closures due to the pandemic, HSE University will be organizing online learning with mandatory support from professors for newly enrolled international students. To do this, the University has all the required infrastructure.
‘I’m Where I Want to Be: at the Intersection of Business and IT’
Denis Shilov, a second-year student of the HSE and University of London double degree bachelor’s programme in Data Science and Business Analytics, has developed Reface, a neuro interface that is able to control your smartphone by reading your facial expressions. Project by Shukhov Lab Wins Polytech Festival Open Call
The ‘Green Spark’ installation by Elena Mitrofanova and Ivan Mitrofanov, project coordinators of the Shukhov Lab, and Paolo Bombelli from Cambridge University, has been selected from 68 projects to be exhibited as part of the Polytech Festival of Science, Art and Technology in May 2018. The festival, organized by the Polytechnic Museum, will take place in Moscow’s Gorky Park.
HSE Students and Alumna Awarded S&T Grants
On February 8, the winners of the UMNIK competition were announced. The programme, run by the Small S&T Enterprises Assistance Fund, promotes young researchers’ innovation projects. Two HSE students and one HSE alumna will receive grants of 500,000 rubles to carry out research and further develop their S&T projects.
Unique Brain Surgeries and Electricity from Moss: HSE Scholars Present Their Discoveries at ONF Action Forum
At an exhibition held during the Russian Popular Front (ONF) Action Forum in Moscow, December 18-19, HSE neuro-linguists presented a method to preserve human speech after brain surgeries, and urbanists showcased sources of energy made of ceramics and moss.
