of residents of the Far Eastern Federal District would like to leave their region of residence.
The Far Eastern Federal District is the only district in Russia that has seen a steady and continuous decline in population since 1990. The only regions in the district where this negative trend was interrupted were Yakutia and Chukotka in 2005-2006, and Primorsky Krai in 2012.
Overall, from 1990 to 2013, the population in the Far Eastern Federal District decreased by 1,810,000 people.
These data are presented in a research report by Anna Nemirovskaya, Senior Research Fellow at the HSE Laboratory for Comparative Social Research (LCSR). More on the research can be found on the OPEC.ru website.

Investors Prefer Regions with Developed Economies
Even a business climate that is not very favourable is not an obstacle for investors if the country is developing fast in general. Business leaders who invest in countries with underdeveloped institutions choose politically stable regions with high demand, qualified workforce and developed infrastructure, said Ksenia Gonchar, leading research fellow at the HSE Institute for Industrial and Market Studies (IIMS), in a paper.
