There is no Development without Internet

HSE Sociologists in Europe
The conference ESA 2013 – Crisis, Critique and Change took place in Turin, in Italy at the end of August 2013. It was organized jointly by the ESA and the Turin University Department of Culture, Politics and Society. Three papers from the Laboratory for Sociology Education and Science at HSE Saint Petersburg Campus were presented at the conference.
Presentation of a new report “Soviet Nationalism in the Historical and Comparative Perspective»
The Laboratory for Comparative Social Research at the HSE Saint Petersburg opened the 2013 Fall seminar series today. Andrey Shcherbak, senior research fellow at LCSR presented a report on 'Soviet Nationalism in the Historical and Comparative Perspective'. He gave a short description of the major findings of his report to the HSE news service.
The Solar System and the Asteroid Threat
On September 11-13, 2013, an international seminar “The Solar System and the Asteroid Threat” will take place at the HSE. Mark Boslough, Professor at the University of New Mexico and a member of the technical staff at Sandia National Laboratories, and Roberto Furfaro, Professor at the University of Arizona and the head of the Space Systems Engineering Laboratory, will speak on the issues. An international pre-summit conference “G20 Partnership for Growth and Jobs” will be held at the Higher School of Economics on 29 August 2013. The conference discussions will focus on the Russian G20 Presidency priorities and the forthcoming St. Petersburg Summit`s agenda; current challenges the G20 members face and the recommendations for their solution.
Sociology is becoming a civic movement
The annual conference of the American Sociological Association was in New York this year. Among the 6,000 specialists discussing the current state of social sciences and society were 18 academics from the HSE.
International Education and International Business Go Hand in Hand
Maria Ashaeva and Anna Buzueva, students in the HSE-Nizhny Novgorod’s Faculty of Business Informatics and Applied Mathematics, together with other Russian students, have taken part in the EDUPASS Project (Education-Process-Analysis, Support and Service) seminar. This project, involving the SAP Academic Department, is led by an international academic network, the European Research Centre for Information Systems (ERCIS), on behalf of T-Systems, a leading provider of IT solutions. The seminar was held in Germany.
HSE Experts Presented a Paper in Paris
In early July 2013, a joint academic conference of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), The University of Oxford, and the British Open University, took place in France. The conference was dedicated to the problems of welfare economics and was held in the OECD headquarters in Paris. Several HSE experts took part in the event.
